The Pain Behind Suicide
Suicide can be a scary thing to talk about. Most of us avoid the topic altogether, but it is very important that we do talk about it. It’s a matter of life and death in many cases. With the release of the Netflix show 13 Reasons Why, many of us are becoming more aware of the issues surrounding suicide and wondering what we can do to help. Some of the more common questions asked are “How do I know if someone is suicidal?”, “How do I talk with a person in crisis?”, “What do I do if someone is threatening suicide?”
These are great questions to ask. Offering support and care to someone thinking about suicide can go a long way in preventing them from taking action. In many cases the person doesn’t want to end their life – they want to end their pain. By recognizing the possible signs and helping our friends and loved ones find constructive ways to alleviate their pain, we can all play a role in reducing the risk of suicide. Join us at the 13 Reasons Why Conference April 28th as we discuss the depths of suicide, answer these questions, and navigate other concerning topics that our teens are exposed to.
