Damian McClintock

Damian is a Licensed Professional Counselor – Intern who specializes in Play Therapy and Couple and Family Therapy. He completed his Master’s in Couple and Family Counseling at East Tennessee State University and is currently completing his PhD in Counseling at the University of North Texas where he specializes in Play Therapy.

In his clinical work with children, Damian practices Child-Centered play therapy (CCPT) and uses play and the therapeutic relationship to provide a safe, consistent therapeutic environment for the child. In this environment, the child can experience full acceptance, empathy, and understanding from the counselor and process inner experiences and feelings in a developmentally appropriate fashion.

In his work with parents, Damian follows the Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) model. Through CPRT, Damian works with parents to develop an empathic and loving relationship with their children by teaching them some of the basic child-centered play therapy skills. During session, Damian will teach parents how to respond more effectively to their children’s emotional and behavioral needs in order to: reduce child behavior problems, reduce stress in the parent-child relationship, and increase empathic interactions between parents and children.

When working with couples, families, and individuals, Damian maintains a Person-Centered approach and works at an emotional level to build a therapeutic relationship of empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness. Damian also incorporates expressive art activities and Sandtray therapy into sessions in order to help clients more readily visualize their concerns and communicate them effectively.

When he is not working, Damian likes to maintain an active lifestyle by playing sports, reading books, and spending time with friends and family.
